A Trip to the Hills
During the summer vacation, we party of four, decided to have, trip to the hills. We went by rail to Rawalpindi. We had not much money to spend and so from there we started on foot. It was quite pleasant to walk through the mountainous country. In the beginning, it was a bit dreary. But soon we found ourselves surrounded verdure. We passed through high hills. Our route lay meandering round lofty rocks. When we came into open space, the scenery was very charming. The air was fresh and life giving. We were to cover a distance of 36 miles to reach Murree. At places, we had to cross mountain streams. In the evening. We had to halt at a village on the way. We got milk and this with loaf of bread made a hearty meal for us. One day`s journey on foot had increased our appetite. The resting place was not at all comfortable. It was very dirty. We spread our bedding and lay on it. We could not sleep because of the bugs. The next morning we cooked our own food. After sun rise we started for our destination again.
On the way we hired a mule which was very restive. We took our turns but it gave us great trouble. Saeed was thrown down and badly hurt. The mule never went straight. It wandered from one point to another. Sheri was very angry with the mule. Our walking tour started again. Now we could see Murree above us the ascent and descent were very enjoyable. We increased our speed because we wanted to reach Murree before sunset. Saeed broke into singing. We reached our destination and stayed in a hotel.
