Essay A Visit to a Museum

A Visit to a Museum

Last year, I happened to pay a visit to the museum at Lahore. I arrived at the entrance at about 3 in the after- noon. I had an umbrella and few books with me. I was not allowed to take anything inside. I left these things outside and entered the building. A notice at the gate attracted my attention. It warned me not to touch anything with my hand or body.
The building consists of a big hall. There are rows of room on either side of it. A good collection of Punjabi arts and crafts is placed in the hall. On the walls are hung the paintings. The picture of Mughal heroes in the Indian wars interested me most. The pictures of Turkish and Mughal emperors and their queens were also charming Kashmir shawls and walnut dishes and baskets were wonderful. Pottery of Multan, toys of Musaffargrah and woodwork of jampur were center of my interest. The carved door frames, old coins and vessels from Harappa provided me a glimpse of the ancient civilization of our country. Models of rural life, golden temple, tomb of Jahangir and the Taj, were masterpieces.
In other rooms, we saw specimen of weapons of war, stone statues of Buddha and Mahavir. There we also found stuffed bears, tigers and snakes in big bottles. Glass jars full of spirit had many other things in them.
I could walk about in the building for only 2 hours because the Museum is closed at 5. However in this short time, I gained much information and was highly pleased with what I saw.
