Life in a College Hostel
A
hostel is an inseparable part of a college. Every education institution has one
or more of them. The students, who do not have any chance to live in a hostel,
indeed miss a valuable piece of experience.
Life
in a hostel is seldom monotonous. A large number of young, energetic sportive
members live there. If an outside enters the hostel, his ears are greeted with
laughter’s, loud singing and noisy gossips: his eyes meet everywhere lively,
cheerful faces moving about. Cares and sorrows of life have no access to the
four walls of the hostel. In the hostel a student enjoys independence. Of
course, there is always a superintendent to check the movement and activities
of the students. But his control is more normal than real. A boarder can freely
go about places and associated with people of his own choice.
A
good hostel life offers many opportunities to develop the inherent qualities of
student. Every hostel has a common room, furnished with indoor games, radios
and magazines. Arrangements for outdoor games like tennis, badminton, football
and cricket are also there. A part from these boarders can organize dramatic performance
and variety shows. Picnic parties and excursions can be under taken as
frequently as time and funds allow. They can publish magazines and hold
debates.
Hostel
life can import valuable social training to the boarders. In a hostel one
learns to live with others. Hero, a boy or a girl, cannot be selfish. Hostel life
also teaches co-operation and mutual help. Moreover, those students who take
part in hostel administration develop a lot of organizing skill too.
Hostel life
has some disadvantages also. In hostel there live all types of students. Some
students are led astray by evil associates. Misuse of liberty corrupts many.
Moreover a prolonged stay in the hostel cuts a student off his family. He
gradually becomes indifferent to the needs of his family.
